"How I See It"
Youth Digital Filmmakers Project
Youth to create videos about their lives, communities

As part of the California Stories How I See It youth campaign, CCH has awarded $240,000 to eight projects across the state to enable young Californians to create films about their communities and what they care about. Mark Oliver and Charley Unkefer are recipients for their film project: Voices between the Mountains--Coming of age in the Siskiyous, to take place in Siskiyou County, in collaboration with the Siskiyou Arts Council.

The Youth Digital Filmmakers projects:
The following eight projects will engage a variety of young Californians in making films over the next year about what they see and experience. The young people will create films on a variety of topics, but central to each film will be a focus on the broad theme of "connections" and "disconnections." "The theme provides a common denominator among all the projects," said Raeshma Razvi, an experienced filmmaker and youth media programmer who is managing the project for the Council.

The projects will take place over the next year and be guided by experienced project directors, award-winning filmmakers and humanities experts. When completed in summer 2008, the films will be screened locally in the young people's communities, broadcast on cable television channels and available for viewing on the Council's website.

Youth Digital Filmmakers is a program of the Council's statewide California Stories: How I See It youth campaign, in partnership with the Digital Storytelling Institute of the Community Technology Foundation of California.
