Mollie YoungArtist's Statement Painting, drawing and designing have always been a primary focus in my life, even as a small child. I am fasinated with color, light and design and the play of those elements on the forms I see in nature. I am always exploring new ways to approach my subject, some through my paintings, some through the silk screen process and some through drawing. As an artist, I have the desire to celebrate the lasting beauty of God's world in my interpretive work. It has been a joy painting in this area as the light, colors and open, beautiful skies are so incredible after working under the Portland, Oregon grey skies for most of my life. My colors are strong. I rarely use a premixed color, but continually mix my colors as I work. I work directly on the canvas or fabric, not relying on preliminary drawings in order to keep my work spontaneous. I hand print my silks and linens with designs I hand cut and adhere to silk screens. My paintings are executed in oils, acrylics, watercolors or goache. The scale of my work ranges from 4' X 8' for my painted and hand screened tapestries to 9" X 12" for the smallest canvases. My fabrics and designs have been sold both nationally and internationally to be used in both commercial and residential settings, my silks as scarves, and my paintings are held in many Northwest collections. I have had many one-man shows of my work across the country. To read a 2005 interview with Mollie Young, CLICK HERE. To view Mollie's paintings CLICK HERE.
