The Marble Rim Gallery

The Marble Rim Gallery is cooperatively organized to promote, support and encourage artists. Its retail place of business, The Marble Rim Gallery, is located at 11835 Main Street, in downtown Fort Jones, where members' products are displayed and sold.

Among the items displayed are artists’ originals – in almost every medium -- including: paintings, prints and photographs (framed and unframed); note cards; quilted wall hangings; pottery, vintage and beaded jewelry; fused glass jewelry, wall art and vessels; metal sculptures, ornaments, trellises and garden stakes; rocks of fire and natural wreaths; stained glass hangings; turned wooden vessels and pine needle bowls; painted gourds; bird houses; handmade soaps, scrubs, candles and other luxurious items of indulgence.

The organization was created by a diverse quintet of artists and crafters in 1991. They joined together out of frustration because art shows were being produced by non-artisans, and they found that they and many other talented local artists had no place to display and show their artistic creations. The founding members were Bonnie Mortenson, Kathy Eastlick, Jeanette Loudon, Melinda Perlman, and Bonnie Sheffield. Since 1991, the Gallery has remained open to the public, giving its members a chance to fulfill their dreams of displaying and selling the products of their artistic endeavors.

Gallery members pay annual dues and volunteer their time at the Gallery. The Gallery receives a small percentage of the members’ sales, but it is never enough to cover the cost of doing business. Fund-raising is an integral component of the Gallery’s success, and its members organize several events, including setting up and then renting space to artists and crafters for the annual Fort Jones Christmas Craft Fair along with a new Spring Artisan’s Street Festival which features local musicians and artisans. The Gallery also hosts First Friday Creative Arts Nights during the months of June through November, where individual artists are featured in an atmosphere of live music and delectable hors’douvres. The Gallery also offers classes for a variety of crafts and artistic styles.

In an effort to maintain the caliber of artistic creations that Gallery customers expect, potential exhibiting members are required to have representative samples of their work juried by a three-person jury before their creations may be displayed and sold in the Gallery.

In January of 2008 the Marble Rim Gallery became a fiscally sponsored project of the Siskiyou Arts Council, which will spawn collaboration with other Siskiyou artists and give The Marble Rim Gallery the tax advantages of a non-profit public organization.

Everyone is invited to visit the Marble Rim Gallery in Fort Jones to see the diversified collection of artistic creations on sale there. People interested in becoming members should contact the President of the Marble Rim Gallery, Roxanne Radder-Miller, at 530-468-5442.
