Community Peace Mural Project
Unity Through Community

"The solution for peace lies inside each one of us. You are the solution."
- Peace Pilgrim

The goal of the Community Peace Mural Project is to bring all generations of our community together to create beauty and public art that represents a unified vision of peace.

What is the Community Peace Mural?
The Peace Mural is a community art project in the city of Mt. Shasta, public art for all visitors and area residents. It will be installed at the Visitor's Bureau Park in Mt. Shasta. Community members, young and old will have an opportunity to craft this ceramic mural together. This innovative project enables community members to work on a collective vision of peace that will become a lasting edifice of public art in Mt. Shasta.

Our Vision...
The goal of the Community Peace Mural project is to bring all generations of our community together to create beauty and public art that represents a unified vision of peace.

"When we realize that all people are equal in their essence, we will create peace on earth."
Ana Holub

Our core values include...
Cultural and Intergenerational Focus
Unity through Community
Creative Expression
Peace in action
Diversity
Integrity
Social Responsibility

"True peace is not merely the absence of tension but it is the presence of justice and brotherhood."
Martin Luther King

How is the peace mural being created?
The first step in creating the mural was a visioning process where the participants offered ideas of what "peace" means to them. The program artists incorporated these ideas into a prototype drawing based on the group vision.

On a "clay canvas" participants draw, paint and glaze their unique element. That element will become part of the larger mural composition.

"In a time of war, it may be useful to think about what we mean when we talk of peace. In the town of Mt. Shasta, two women have done just that. They asked their fellow citizens to join them in a group visioning process to come up with images of peace. Then they organized a community art project to represent that vision.
