Roxanne Miller

Artist's Statement

My name is Roxanne Miller; my business is Looking Glass Studio. My main medium is Glass; Stained Glass, Fused Glass, Blown Glass and Mosaics. I still enjoy other art mediums - I find that it helps open my mind.

I’ve always been involved with some kind of art form; painting, silk screen, sewing and ceramics. In 2001, when I moved back to Siskiyou County, I started working with stained glass. I read books, watched DVDs and picked other artists’ brains. I really enjoy creating with glass. I found that I had a lot of small pieces of glass and couldn’t throw them out. So I began to look into fusing glass thinking that might be a way to use up the scrap. Well it wasn’t, for a whole lot of non compatible reasons! I found that mosaics worked well though. Fusing glass has come to be what I enjoy the most; manipulating glass when it is most pliable. After teaching myself the basics and taking courses by some of the industries best, I now teach basic and intermediate classes in glassworks.

I love to make bowls, vases, drop rings and hope to be making sinks soon. Custom jewelry is always fun and I enjoy designing pieces for clubs and other retailers using their logos. The jewelry I create is fun, eye-catching and colorful. My glassworks sell in area stores and art galleries.

I am currently the President of the Marble Rim Gallery, a Local Artist Art Gallery, in Fort Jones California.
