Artist's Statement

I am not sure if I am more interested in personal growth or the creative process because they have always been so deeply intertwined. In college I had such a profound mind-altering experience while drawing, that it permanently changed the way I view both art and life. This singular event propelled me on a journey of self-discovery and in the process I came to understand how the creative process could have such a profound effect on my emotions, and my ability to succeed.

Years later when my daughter was in school I was given an opportunity to teach art in the classroom. It was during this time that I began to experiment with innovative approaches to teaching art that were based on my experience in college. During this same time, I was fortunate to meet Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of The Biology of Belief. His life-changing research confirmed for me a deeper understanding of how drawing can bring about change in our body and our mind.

Since that time my illustrations have graced cards, publications and books. My most recent project is the I Create What I Believe! Self-Awareness Art Program (ICWIB). It represents the culmination of 30 years of my exploration and study in this field. This ground-breaking course helps children and adults release bottled-up emotions, transform negative beliefs and gain a deeper sense of self. The ICWIB program is an outgrowth of my professional art career, many years of teaching and refining these methods and Dr. Bruce Lipton’s research.

In March of 2009 I began a pilot study of the ICWIB program. A small group of gifted educators have agreed to teach the program to their students and track how the program affects student and classroom stress and productivity.
