Joan Lucas-Coreographer/Director
Artistic Director-Mount Shasta Senior Theater

Joan Lucas has been a professional dancer, choreographer and director most of her life. She danced on Broadway, has done television and was in Singing in the Rain. Joan taught ballet, tap and jazz at College of the Siskiyous for four years and was the choreographer for ten years. She has also been a board member of the Siskiyou Arts Council for ten years.

Joan is interested in staging musical numbers, choreographing and directing musicals. If you have any event which includes the performing arts, Joan can pull it all together and give it that Broadway look.

In 2006 Joan created the Mount Shasta Senior Theatre which was accepted at COS in their LifeLong Learning Progam. As Joan states, "I was definitely a senior citizen and I became interested in the possiblilities of doing shows with that population. After attending a conference on Senior Theater in St. Louis, I came back very enthusiastic about teaching theater disciplines and creating shows in Siskiyou County." This is her second year at College of the Siskiyous teaching improvisation, movement, readers theater, storytelling, and acting. Joan is the Artistic Director and Jan Stensaas is the Music Director.

Some comments and reviews about the Mount Shasta Senior Theatre's show entitled
"These are the Good Old Days"

This is the first production by seniors to be performed in far Norhtern California. A review comments, "old age is often referred to as the Golden Years but in this case of the senior cast, platinum might be more appropriate. As is celebrates growing older, the show offers a wide range of entertainment and introspective experience that ranges from the whimsical to the intensely personal. Stories of overcoming hardship and receiving redemption are worth the price of the ticket alone. In several skits, the nature of growing old is mercilessly lampooned with clever dialogue and good humor." Paul B
