Bernadette Hotze

Artist's Statement
Although I have practiced art since I was very young, I began my professional career in 1981, graduating with a Masters degree in Fine Art. I taught college art for 14 years in the Midwest, and since then, continue to explore creative expressive ways of using color.

As an artist and colorist, I use the language and energies of color to create art that inspires new visions of the world through paintings, prints, individualized symbolic portraits, mandalas, and collages. Light, sacred geometry, and my intuitive interpretation of the vibrational consciousness of nature communicate and celebrate the spirit deep within creation.

I use aqua media for painting (acrylic, watercolor, Createx, water-based oil color, and watercolor pencils), as well as monotype printmaking. As an educator, I offer the opportunity to others to do the same through individualized sessions, workshops, classes and retreats. In a safe and supportive environment, color can bring greater self-awareness, re-ignite the creative spirit, express and explore and issue, and relationship or life direction. Everyone can learn simple but powerful ways for color to guide him or her to new insights concerning one's personal mythic journey.

Art offers new visions to both the inner and outer landscape of people's worlds. Art that speaks of truth and beauty reflects nature's own perfection. It is crucial that people not only view art, but exercise their own creative expression and make art, so that their own unique truth and beauty is communicated.
