Jane HallArtist's Statement Ideally art opens us up to allow emotional expression, offers an alternative view on a wide range of subjects, and gives us chuckle at ourselves and life. I work clay in two forms. Sculptural pieces and vessel forms. Function is not a primary objective. Ideas for creation derived from nature are central. I am particularly interested in minutia, the small over looked forms and textures quickly passed by. Nature's beauty can be a relief to the soul burdened by the mundane daily routine. If I can capture a small bit of that wonder and someone connects to that, then I am delighted. A little whimsy pops up now and again in my work. Unexpected visual fun, sometimes "cute" but also a bit strange and repulsive. I love to see the viewer's casual look, the walk on by, the snap of the head to look again! Beyond being a studio artist, I am committed to how art can function as a way to bring together a diverse rural community in Siskiyou County. There is an opportunity for creative expression here, that reflects personal experience coming from a great variety of regional environments. Artists living "downriver" along the Klamath River may create quite different images than another artist living in Dunsmuir. We have a beautiful, rural, diverse, and unique home, and many artists who are striving to find voice of what that means to them. Activities such as, finding gallery space for shows, art walks, open studio tours, are all possibilities that interest me as time and energy allow. View Jane Hall's Pottery
