Tatiana DiakoffArtist Statement Art is not only a passion of mine but also a psychological interest and a self journey. When I create art, I like to use what is already available to me and transform it into my own expression. Photography has been a medium with which I have been able to capture the world, to observe an ever changing reality. I don’t aim to show the particular way that I perceive the world through a camera lens. Instead, I aim only to present a different way it can be seen; perhaps an obscured perspective, an abstract configuration of landscape or familiar form, a simplified depiction of shapes and figures that are recognizable but unidentifiable. All of this helps to create a mood and feeling within a photograph. These abstracted images don’t always exist in our raw, unmediated perception of the world but they exist on another level, almost like poetry. Photography as an art form presents the most potent illustration of the way we see the physical world and is often seen as the ultimate depiction of reality. Because of this, it has also been criticized as a non-art form because the image is already there, all a photographer has to do is capture it. I like the idea that we, as visual creatures, have a huge repertoire of stored images inside our mind. A photographic image can not only bring that iconographic form to the surface by pure recognition but it also points to something real, something tangible. Light transferred onto film has the ability to create the essence of something, even if the image is abstracted, blurry, sharp, or a simple silhouette. This for me is an indescribable feeling of beauty and experience of the world. To view Tatiana's Photography, CLICK HERE. Contact Tatiana by email at tmdiakoff@gmail.edu |
