Tony Corsini

Artist's Statement
Tony began painting furiously in 1990 to explore un-hindered creativity. He painted on everything from burlap to pond scum, and created sculpture from found objects in nature and dumps.

“I landscape during the summers and did art through the winters, renting little cabins in the woods of Colorado, often without power or running water. I sold my first paintings to restaurants in trade for food.”

Passion and Earth Power were central themes in these early explorations, no taboos were left un-touched. During this time, the stunning valleys and fourteen thousand ft. peaks surrounding the little town of Ridgeway, Co., eventually inspired Tony to paint the landscape around him.

“I never desire to capture exactly what I see with my eyes, but rather attempt to depict a feeling of the land, as expressed through the filter of my being.”

Lately, through the growth generated in moving to Mt. Shasta, Tony has been creating landscape paintings with obsessive compositions, slightly surreal, almost cartoonistic, but always powerful and rich. Tony uses broad, thickly loaded brush strokes to create tapestries of form and light which dance together masterfully, almost magically.

“Deeply seeded impulses drive me to depict strong landscapes with little detail. I see the land as interwoven geometric forms, intricately reflecting light.”

The edges of definition blur, and by stepping back, they blend to create art.

“So my frames are an extension of this idea. The image is not bound by the frame. Rather, it is expanded, and growth occurs. The edges are harmonious and interaction with the surrounding world is softened.”

Using natural and found materials for his frames, Tony desires to present art as a unified whole, physically connecting the image with the nature it depicts. He furthers this philosophy in creating outdoor sculptural environments in rock and soil as a licensed stone mason, specializing in sacred and spiritual spaces.

Tony continues his explorations of life’s mysteries in Mt. Shasta with his inspirational and exquisitely talented wife Ra-el, their Daughter of the Horse, Shasta Mariposa, and ever present StarFleet Commander and Special Dog Friend, Gobinda.
