Return to the Registry Interview: Charmian August, 10 2005 1. How long have you been a resident in Siskiyou County? I came from my native Los Angeles, CA to Mt. Shasta in 1980-loving and needing its tranquility and expansive natural beauty. 2. Can you give a short explanation of your specialty or your artistic medium? My art evolves from inner visions in a rather altered state of consciousness without expectations of a finished piece. My mediums are oil pastels, inks, colored pencil and graphite. 3. How long have you been making art (professionally and unprofessionally)? All my life-becoming professional in the 1970's. 4. How have you learned your art? Have you had any formal art education? I am self taught; continuously experimenting and experiencing. 5. Can you talk a little about your experience as an artist in Siskiyou County? (In other words, what is unique about being an artist in this area?) (Pros and Cons) (economic, cultural, physical/geographic) For a visionary artist, or any spiritual seeker, this is an especially magical environment, bringing to balance the subtler realms and the physical plane. 6. If you had to describe your style in a few words how would you do this? First 5 words that come to mind?… My art is visionary and shamanic-a sharing of the infinite magic and beauty of my own experiences in the inner Light Worlds where all life forms merge. Most images are expressions of life, love, cyclic woundings and healings that are the essence of Woman and empowering energy of the Goddess or The Devine Feminine. 7. What is it about making art and the creative process that you find most interesting or are most passionate about? I am made passionate in my work by the connection to spirit that flows with the creative process. And the many self-healing alchemical journeys into alternate realities within. 8. Do you have one particularly interesting story about your adventures as an artist? All my adventures as an artist are rewarding and exciting in the hope that my images will share with others illumination of the eternal worlds within, hope, healing and empowerment-especially for women. |
