Suzanne Birch

Artist's Statement

My passion is watercolor, plein air of landscapes. I enjoy painting in the wilderness and feeling the presence of God. My desire is to convey the emotion of the experience or situation and do it in such a way as to move a person to see in a different way. Painting I feel , is about life and being creative, I love the process.

My love for art started as a child watching my Father paint and work for the motion picture business. I went to school at Long Beach State University and San Jose State University for my teaching credential. I retired from teaching art at Etna High School this past year and I am enjoying pursuing my art. On the side I enjoy making soap and bath items. When not making soap or painting I love working in clay. Anything I can do with my hands creatively is enjoyable. I carry a sketchbook and camera wherever I go, ready to record or paint what I see. My goals this year are to paint a series with horses and a series of arbors and lonesome chairs.

I live with my husband in Scott Valley , taking any opportunity to visit my 4 children and 5 grandchildren. My artwork can be seen in the Marble Rim Gallery in Ft. Jones and Siskiyou Gallery and Frame in Yreka. Cards and prints are available of original artwork.
