Mountain Classics 2003
The Mt. Shasta Board and Ski Park groomed the landscape,
polished the stage, and ordered the wine for a fund raiser
on Saturday, July 26 to benefit the Siskiyou Arts
Council. Known as Mountain Classics (it is not an antique
car show!) this multi-faceted program encompassed art work,
singing and dance performances, humorous theatricals, and
wine tasting. Local artists from the Siskiyou Artists
Association participated, showing and selling their creative work in the
lobby of the Ski Park. Artists included Michele
Criste, Janet Curti-Haines, Marilyn Ellis, JoAnna Enloe,
Julie Grossman, Joyce Kyle, Richard Morgan, Roberta Mosher,
Marilyn Novak, Jewel O'Brien, Pamela Sexton, Crystal Swan,
Shaun Smith, Pamela Toulouse, Pauline Walcott, Leslie Whitman
and Wes Whitman.Local dancers presented a ballet by Joan Lucas, created especially for this performance. Krista Miller has choreographed her own solo and dances with the energetic group, Dance 7. The music was by Vivaldi and Sarri, however the movement runs the gamut from ballet and modern to hip hop and jazz. Joan and Krista first met at the Princeton Ballet Society in Princeton N.J. when Joan was Krista's teacher and Krista was about five. They remet quite by accident when Krista visited Mt. Shasta 2 years ago.
Another well known local is Nuria Llovet who owns her own
Dance Academy in Mt. Shasta. She was a professional flamenco
dancer in her native Spain and performed at this year's
Mountain Classics with Ragna Ruffner. Nuria also played
the castenets to the accompaniment of pianist Terry
Mihalevich.Rounding out this entertaining afternoon on the Mountain was be Sally Munro from the San Francisco Opera Company singing Opera and Broadway Show Songs; Kenneth Renshaw, Child Violin Prodigy, accompanied on the piano by Kerrilyn Renshaw; Faina Podolnaya and her amazing violin class from Ashland, and a wonderful newcomer to our area, the ShadowBox Players, who presented their hilarious version of Shakespear's Hamlet called Half Hour Hamlet.
