Siskiyou County is the most beautiful place on Earth. It is the happiest, friendliest, most loving community. Playing music together in parades creates opportunity for us to joyfully share with family, friends, and neighbors - - as well as to make new friends in our wonderful community. It is for this purpose of joyful, shared, fun-filled celebration that we host these musical events - - in which many may participate. Our first outing was playing in the 2004 Fourth of July parade, our biggest annual event in Mt Shasta where heaven and earth meet. This year we will be playing and celebrating for an additional hour at the end of the parade route. We're planning a Jam Session/Drum Circle/ Block Party with ensemble showcasing, awards for outstanding musicianship, showiness, and fun, videotaping for Arts Council/MCTV shows, facilitating by members of the Jefferson Drum Circle Facilitator's Guild, Teacher's Assn, and others. We are encouraging each participating ensemble to conduct parts for the assembled mass to play as backup when they are being showcased.

Who's invited to play ???

We inviting participation by individual musicians, music teachers, music students, and groups such as Families, Churches, Bands, Troops, Clubs, Companies, Samba School Teams, etc. People at all levels of musicianship who love to play in celebration in harmony with others, and who want to improve their musical skills are invited to join in. We'll be playing a wonderful worldbeat rhythm based on the Brazilian Batucada.

It's a great rhythm for parades and lots of fun for both beginners and more advanced players. The Batucada is an exciting street festival rhythm that originated in Brazil and is now used throughout the world. It's easy for beginners to play the seven basic parts on the seven types of percussion instruments. More advanced musicians will have plenty of opportunities to play fascinating variations - - an excellent way to sharpen playing skills and communication between band members. The basic written music parts of the Batucada rhythm section are available below. The joyful sound and exuberant experience delights all, and we have a music loop available below with which to practice.

In playing this rhythm, each part is generally played as written to begin. Then, variations are played as desired until returning to the basic parts. When the simple delightful parts are played all together in sync, the uplifting music makes each musician sound and feel good.

Come Outside and Play with us

We will be holding a practice session on Sunday June 26 from 2:30-5:00 in Mt Shasta Park. to: We will be holding practice sessions on Sat June 17, 24, and July 1 from 1-4 at 608 Ski Village Drive in Mt Shasta Park.

Private playshop sessions are available for groups and individuals. Playshops are also available for other participants in the parade who wish to include music as part of their entry. Participants will get to use interesting and unusual percussion instruments from around the world - - drums, shakers, scrapers, tambourines, bells, whistles, gongs and more.

Join in with Family and Friends

Beginners quickly become adept enough with the basics of music to really enjoy participating in our celebrations - - and ready for parties, songfests, ceremonies and other opportunities to join in and play.
