The Siskiyou Arts Council's Arts Bus Project is a mobile art classroom created within a retired school bus that provides art experiences and creative opportunities taught by dedicated and skilled instructors for Siskiyou County children who otherwise have little or no exposure to the arts. Through the expression of the arts and sciences this program strives to teach self expression in educational and innovative ways with an emphasis on student respect, tolerance and diversity.

Our region is spread out with little or no access to the arts, or the history and culture of this county as geared for youth. Our art-related projects deliver a creative way to learn about the area in a fun and creative process! This will enable children to gain a better understanding (and respect), thus becoming contributing citizens of their communities.

The project goals are to foster life-building skills which include problem solving, creative thinking, positive self-esteem and discipline. We also intend to bring in science and social studies through the art mediums we offer, to provide a well-rounded educational approach.

In the first phase of growth, The Arts Bus Project will target children who have had very little exposure, or no exposure to the arts, and who are offered no art-related after-school programs. With helpful and skilled instructors, these disadvantaged youth can create, explore and will also beneft from the tutoring and mentoring relationships developed through the program.
