Siskiyou Arts Council 3-5 Year Plan 2007

THE Siskiyou Arts Council 3-5 Year Strategic Plan 2007 develops strategies to fund the organization by demonstrating that SAC is a practical and valuable entity relevant to all citizens of Siskiyou County. This will be achieved by expanding the role of SAC in supporting the arts, arts organizations and individual artist, and through public awareness by promoting the fact that the arts add public and economic value to individuals, communities, governments and other stake holders.

Project: Membership
Objective: Increase income and participation in arts events, especially events sponsored by the Siskiyou Arts Council and its associated projects. Increase participation in the online Artist Registry. Increase subscribers to the monthy email newsleter. Increase use of the online monthly Calendar of Arts Events.
Action Plan: Continue direct mailing campaign. Require all partners to become members. Encourage all volunteers to become members. Provide membership benefits, such as discounts on SAC sponsored events and classes.
Intended Outcome: Increased awareness of SAC relevance. Partnership opportunities. Income useful to leverage public funding opportunities.

Project: Garden Party Annual Fudraising Event
Objective: Increase profits from this annual fund raising event. Expand personal relationships with influential community members.
Action Plan: Increase attendance with personal invitations to all SAC members and key community members. Promote artwork and SAC items for sale, such as coffee mugs or t-shirts. Continue awards to supports and volunteers.
Intended Outcome: Increased awareness about SAC. Increased profits for SAC and participating artist. Relationships with influential community members.

Project: Local Government Partnerships with SAC
Objective: To influence cities, county and community plans for the purpose of supporting the arts. To acquire municipal financial support for SAC.
Action Plan: Proposal to Mt Shasta's City Planning Commission to include a statement saying the City support artists and art. To likewise partner with the City of Weed, expanding same to other county communities in future years. Work with the Weed Arts Collaborative (WAC) on a proposal to the City of Weed for financial buy-in to support the arts and artist of Weed.
Intended Outcome: Demonstrate support of City Governments for the Arts. SAC's fiscal sponsorship of WAC.

Project: County Wide Public Art Exhibit
Objective: Promote SAC, artist and public art. Annual fund raiser for SAC.
Action Plan: Get input from the Advisory Group. Examine models such as COBRA in Chico and the Box Show in Point Reyes Station.
Intended Outcome: Possible Countywide Public Art Show at the Garden Party or on California Arts Day. Increased awareness of SAC. Support of artists countywide. Annual fundraiser.

Project: Fiscal Sponsorship
Objective: Increase arts in Siskiyou County. Support emerging cultural programs with fiscal sponsorships.
Action Plan: Market SAC fiscal sponsorship services to the public through press and community service agencies and groups. Community outreach to promote SAC successes.
Intended Outcome: Increased fiscal sponsorship partners. Support emerging cultural programs. Diverse cultural experiences for Siskiyou County residence. Income for SAC from administrative fees.

Project: Giving Back
Objective: Provide opportunities for Siskiyou County artist and students, such as scholarships, admission to SAC sponsored events, regranting and micro-loan opportunities for funding.
Action Plan: Make event tickets available to Family Resource Centers, College of the Siskiyous, community services agencies, schools and groups to provide cultural opportunities to low income students and families. Support successes of emerging talented individuals and cultural events.
Intended Outcome: Increased community goodwill and awareness of SAC roll in community development. Expand cultural experiences for all Siskiyou County residences.

Project: Siskiyou Arts Bus / SAC Education Projects
Objective: Increase arts for children and youth in Siskiyou County. Support and provide school and after school programs.
Action Plan: Community and school outreach to promote Siskiyou Arts Bus / SAC Education programs and successes.
Intended Outcome: Increased fine arts and dance/movement experiences for all children and youth in Siskiyou County. Economic benefit to arts instructors.

Project: Board and Advisory Board Recruitment
Objective: Increase representation from all communities with in Siskiyou County. Increased awareness of the public value of SAC and its programs. Develop policies and purpose of Arts Advisory Group to drive SAC's mission and service to the board.
Action Plan: Community outreach to promote board recruitment. Work with Arts Advisory Group to develop plans for driving SAC's mission.
Intended Outcome: Increased representation from all communities. Develop a fundraising board of directors and influential arts advisory group who will promote SAC's mission and purpose.

Project: Bi-annual Print Newsletter
Objective: Continue to Increase relationships with all residents in Siskiyou County. Increased awareness of SAC programs and the public value of SAC, artist and the arts.
Action Plan: Write, print and distribute bi-annual newsletter.
Intended Outcome: Increased awareness of SAC and promote membership income.

Project: Weekly or bi-weekly Newspaper " SAC Featured Artist Column"
Objective: Increase knowledge about artist from all communities and disciplines in Siskiyou County. Increased awareness of relationship of artist to communities and quality of life in Siskiyou County. Promote artist.
Action Plan: Develop questions and select artist from SAC's online Artist Registry for column.
Intended Outcome: Increased awareness of artist and the public value of arts.



SAC Cultural Diversity Policy

SAC believes that sharing arts experiences, such as music, visual arts, dance, literature and theater, expands tolerance, understanding, and respect for diverse communities and cultures. Participation in the arts helps individuals develop new skills, discover different points of view, grow in self-expression, gain confidence, exchange varied and innovative ideas, embrace dissent, and create something to share. Participation in the arts helps develop awareness, insight, understanding, and compassion for all Siskiyou County residents.

SAC promotes the use of the arts to bridge cultural gaps and foster community pride while improving community dialog through continuing relationships, and forming new partnerships with all cultural groups and organizations to collect, preserve and promote an understanding of Siskiyou County's rich cultural diverse heritage.

Specific programs and events in 2006, 2007 include such projects as:
1. Collaboration with Karuk Tribe to teach and promote traditional Karuk basket weaving processes.
2. Collaboration with the Mt. Zion and Mt. Shasta Baptist Churches to sponsor the 2nd Annual Gospel Music Fest.
3. Continued support of the Scott Valley Blugrass Festival celebrating traditional American music.
4. Collaborations with Shasta Taiko drummers, including public performances such as the Dec. 2006 event featuring the Oregon Poet Laureate, Lawson Inada performing with Russel Baba and Jeanne Mercer, founders of Shasta Taiko drum ensemble, and SAC's participation in Shasta Taiko's major concert in August 2006.
5. Sponsorship support for Mt. Shasta Senior Theater and opportunities for elder artists.
6. Continued arts classes for special needs students in conjunction with area schools.
